La Rinconada is the world's highest town at 5 200 meters in the Peruvian Andes. The town has no police and almost no infrastructure. Garbage floats everywhere. The main reason for 30 000 people to live here, is gold. To extract the precious metal, they use mercury. Geologists claims that as much as 1000 kilos of mercury is being spilled in to La Rinconadas surroundings every month.
